SEVENTIES SWAGGER

Gentlemen, start your engines ...

The new soft line suits - elephantine lapels enhance a tan chalk-stripe single-breasted suit by Raleigh. The jumbo pleated patch pockets have button down flaps. Naturally, you wear a wide-brimmed hat, like this one by Hat Corporation to complement the look.

Boldness played against softness by Britain's  Hardy Amies. A three -button traditional model with a European accent. Wide notched lapels in a Saville Row vein, rather than the loose rolled-to-the-middle-button Madison Avenue manner. The waist is shaped, and the pocket placement and center vent, shout Britannia - while the fabric is Ivy League chalk-stripe grey wool worn with a strongly striped shirt and mono-toned tie. Wear with Pierre Cardin's blunt-toed black slip-on.

Lower-keyed readings of bold shades shown in this Jackie Rogers mohair suit with squared shoulders and a moderately traced waist. The lapels are wide peaked and the jacket has no vents. The Jackie Rogers shirt is worn with a Burma-Bibas tie.

The high-rise pants reveal a return to single pleats. A Raphael hat with a Thirties side dip and patterned band tops it off.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND

Gentlemen's Quarterly
March 1970
Illustration: John Ansado

John Ansado had a wonderful style of illustration that matched perfectly with the sixties sensibilities. Doe-eyed females and long haired gents in fashions surrounded with a poster art background. Similar in style to  famed fashion illustrator, Antonio Lopez, John Ansado illustrated covers for books, advertisements and magazines before joining the corporate world as a senior vice president and associate creative director of Gleckler & Spiegel Advertising, now Spiegel Ansado Rochlis & Levine, Inc.
