RALPH LAUREN 1970

"Of all the new wave American designers,Ralph lauren is in the most unique position while the others are still struggling for some sort of foothold with retailers and consumers. Lauren, 29, has already been enveloped in some of the Cassini-Weitz-Blass mystique. It came when his Polo label served as the prime impetus for widening ties, the employing of more luxurious fabrics and then the introduction of higher price tags. Now, he's expanded to  encompass shirts, suits and sport coats (like the two-button tartan plaid coat he wears in his Manhattan apartment. Prevailing throughout his styling is a Thirties-influenced elegance, aimed at the man who wants to feel comfortable and look contemporary, regardless of cost."
